DuPage Symphony Orchestra presents free ‘Great Outdoors’ concert
The DuPage Symphony Orchestra invites the community to a free, family-friendly summer concert, titled “The Great Outdoors,” on Sunday, July 20, at Wheaton’s Memorial Park.
Under the direction of Music Director Barbara Schubert, the program features a lively mix of classical masterpieces, folk-inspired melodies, and timeless Americana that capture the essence of open-air celebration.
Featuring compositions by Aaron Copland, Bedřich Smetana, Ferde Grofé, Richard Rodgers, John Williams, and more, the concert also highlights baritone soloist Jeffrey Ray, performing stirring pieces such as “Ol’ Man River” and “Shenandoah.”
“This program brings together the best of orchestral and vocal music in a beautiful outdoor setting — ideal for families, newcomers, and symphony fans alike,” said Maestra Schubert.
Program highlights include: “An Outdoor Overture” by 20th-century American composer Aaron Copland, “The Moldau” by 19th-century Czech composer Bedřich Smetana, selections from “Mississippi Suite” by 20th-century American composer Ferde Grofé, “Cowboys Overture” by 20th-century American composer John Williams, and “The Magnificent Seven” by 20th-century American composer Elmer Bernstein.
Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and a picnic to enjoy an afternoon of music in the shade of Wheaton Memorial Park. Weather is expected to be warm (high near 84°) with light breezes and cloudy skies — a perfect summer setting.
Subscriber perks include exclusive access to a shaded VIP lawn area and reserved bleacher seating for subscribers of the “Radiant Reflections” 2025-26 season by July 20.
The concert will begin at 3 p.m. at the park band shell, 225 Karlskoga Ave. Parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis throughout Wheaton Memorial Park, with additional Sunday parking at Wheaton City Hall (just steps away).
This concert is proudly sponsored by the Wheaton Park District, with heartfelt thanks to the Wheaton Municipal Band for providing percussion equipment, and to Professional Wealth Advisors LLC, for supporting the VIP section.
