Botanical art meets environmental justice at Brushwood Center exhibition

The opening reception for “Rooted in the Shadow of Coal: Botanical Treasures of the Waukegan Dunes” will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 13 at the Gallery at Brushwood Center at Ryerson Woods, 21850 N. Riverwoods Road, Riverwoods.

The exhibition is presented in partnership with the Driehaus Museum.

By focusing on the plants of the Waukegan Dunes the exhibition is using botanical art as a lens to consider health, equity and nature, organizers say.

A free reception opens at 1 p.m. followed by a panel discussion at 2 p.m. The exhibition will be on display through Aug. 31. Visit https://brushwoodcenter.org.
