Mount Prospect warns about fireworks in the village

The Mount Prospect Fire Department reminds residents that all fireworks, including sparklers, are prohibited in the village. Violations carry fines of $500-$2,500 per incident.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, more than 10,000 people were treated for fireworks injuries in 2023, with 42% suffering burns. Sparklers reach temperatures up to 1,800°F and remain dangerous even after extinguishing.

“Fireworks are frequently seen as a harmless tradition, especially during Fourth of July celebrations, but the dangers should never be overlooked. We are asking the public to play it safe and leave the fireworks to professionals,” fire Chief John Dolan said.

Safe alternatives include glow sticks, flashlights, and party poppers. Contact the fire department at (847) 818-5253 for questions.
