Senior Suburban Orchestra invites players to free summer sight-reading sessions

The Senior Suburban Orchestra invites area musicians to participate in one or both of the summer sight-reading sessions which will take place on Tuesdays, July 15 and Aug. 19.

During the July session, they will read Johannes Brahms’ Symphony No. 2, D major, op. 73. On the menu for August will be Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4, F minor, op 36.

Both sessions will be 1 to 3:15 p.m. at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 5739 Dunham Road, Downers Grove.

The orchestra’s conductor, Dan Pasquale D’Andrea, has been with the orchestra since its inception in 2000, and has helped develop the orchestra into an award-winning 40-plus piece performing organization, which presents up to 15 concerts per year for venues such as retirement homes, schools, and community organizations.

There are openings for all strings and selected woodwinds, brass and percussion. There is no charge to participate and no age limit. Bring your own instrument and stand.

To register, contact Lori Davis at (630) 935-7103 or email lsd542000@yahoo.com.

More information about the Senior Suburban Orchestra can be found on its website, seniorsuburbanorchestra.org.

Rehearsals are 1 to 3:15 p.m. Tuesdays, from September through May, at St. Paul’s UCC.

The programs are partially supported by grants from the Illinois Arts Council Agency, National Endowment for the Arts, Grove Foundation, and the DuPage Foundation, as well as individual donors.
