Woman charged with hitting IDOT truck while drunk, nearly running over bodies at scene of fatal crash
A woman has been charged with drunkenly crashing into an IDOT truck on the scene of a fatal crash Sunday and nearly running over two bodies.
Estephany Antunez, 27, of the 200 block of Gettysburg Drive in Bolingbrook, is charged with felony passing an emergency vehicle — causing injury or death, and 10 misdemeanor and petty traffic offenses, including driving under the influence of alcohol.
DuPage County Judge Alexander McGimpsey denied her pretrial release Monday morning.
The Illinois Department of Transportation truck was at a crash site on I-55 northbound, north of I-355, near Lemont. Two people were killed.
The crash happened around 3 a.m. Authorities say that around 7:30 a.m., Antunez drove around lane closures set up by police and hit an IDOT truck. There was a worker inside the vehicle, and he sustained minor injuries.
After hitting the truck, she drove off on the closed roadway, where police were still investigating the fatal crash, according to the charges. Authorities say she nearly hit the bodies and an Illinois State Police trooper.
She did not stop when a trooper tried to pull her over, driving another two miles.
Authorities say her blood-alcohol content was .173, more than twice the legal threshold of 0.08.
According to the petition for detention, Antunez told police she had been at a party to celebrate her birthday, that her boyfriend had broken up with her and that she went driving to clear her head.
Her next court date is July 21.
