Two new trustees join Schaumburg Township Library board
Like most other local governments, the Schaumburg Township District Library last month swore in its newly elected trustees, who included two newcomers and a pair of returning incumbents.
Lifelong Schaumburg resident Vanessa A. Abundiz took the oath to serve her first 4-year term on the seven-member board. She said she was raised in a civically engaged family and is looking forward to her service to the community.
Abundiz studied political science at Harper College and has worked in customer relations.
George Rowe, a 12-year resident of Schaumburg, is the other new addition to the board. A mechanical engineer with more than 35 years of experience in heavy industry, he’s worked in both technical and management roles on large capital projects. Outside of work, he said he enjoys researching historical events, volunteering with his church, and collaborating with global efforts to fight hunger.
Reelected to the board are its senior trustee Anita Forte-Scott, who is starting her sixth term, and Emily Gilbert, who’s beginning her second elected term with an appointment to be board president.
Also serving in officer positions are incumbents Jillian Bernas as vice president and secretary, and John Caporale as treasurer. Officers are selected annually by the trustees. Theresa Seyring is the seventh member of the board and also halfway through her current term.
The Schaumburg Township District Library operates facilities in Schaumburg, Hoffman Estates and Hanover Park. The library serves approximately 130,000 residents in Schaumburg Township, which includes portions of Elk Grove Village, Hanover Park, Hoffman Estates, Schaumburg, and Streamwood.
