Fox Lake man charged with illegally possessing explosives, firearms

Allan J. Orbeck

A Fox Lake man is facing explosives and weapons charges after police say he fired his shotgun into the ground outside his home Thursday evening.

Police were called to the 28000 block of Golf View Drive just before 8 p.m. for a report gunfire in the area.

Officers were told where the shots were fired and made contact with 46-year-old Allan J. Orbeck. Officers determined Orbeck had fired a shotgun into the ground in his backyard.

Police said Orbeck does not have a valid Firearm Owner’s Identification card. A search of Orbeck’s home uncovered a shotgun, rifle, ammunition and a firework that has the explosive power of a quarter stick of dynamite.

He is charged with possession of explosive material without a license and possession of a firearm with an expired FOID card.

He was granted pretrial release following a detention hearing Friday in Lake County.
