Bloomingdale Library marks 50th anniversary with June 7 celebration

Bloomingdale Public Library invites the community to its 50th Anniversary Celebration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 7.

Stop by for the ribbon-cutting at 10 a.m. and stay to enjoy treats, crafts, live entertainment, and more at the library, 101 Fairfield Way.

The library has a long history of community involvement. It acts as a community space as well as an information portal, providing all people in the community a safe place to gather and connecting people and resources.

Over the past 50 years, the library has been a part of community events such as Family Fest, Bloomingdale Halloween Event, Bunny Bash, Senior Fair, and Septemberfest, as well as hosting its own community-wide events like the Fish Fry, Ice Cream Social, Polar Express, and Holiday Open House.

Over the years, the library building itself has transformed from two mobile classrooms that housed the original collection to the current 35,000-square-foot building which contains over 128,000 items for patrons of all ages in a wide variety of formats.

Most recently, the library added the Dominic Froio Memorial Garden (2021), the BPL Makerspace (2021), and the Youth Services Calming Space (2022) for patron use and enrichment.

The anniversary event is free and open to the public. For more information regarding this event or other library information, contact library director Tim Jarzemsky at (630) 924-2722 or visit mybpl.org.
