Learn about ‘Community Roots’ at one-room schoolhouse

The Elmhurst History Museum is hosting “Community Roots” at noon Sunday, May 18, at the Churchville Schoolhouse, 3N784 Church Road, Bensenville.

Local historian Jonathan Sebastian offers an immersive look into the early days of DuPage County. At this National Register of Historic Places site, together with Fischer Farm and nearby Zion Lutheran Church, learn how early settlers lived, worked, worshipped, and how they were educated.

Peek into incredible local history and learn how this community started. Space is limited to 30 people. Cost is $8 or free for Elmhurst History Museum members. Sign up via elmhursthistory.org.

The Churchville One-Room Schoolhouse was built circa 1850 and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. It is one of the oldest structures in DuPage County as well as one of the few remaining one-room schoolhouses in the state of Illinois standing on its original site -- making it both historically significant and a community treasure of Chicago’s western suburbs.
