A record-breaking day at Northern Illinois Food Bank’s 12th annual Fight Hunger Run/Walk
More than 1,600 participants, plus volunteers, sponsors, food trucks, and spectators gathered at the beautiful Cantigny Park in Wheaton on May 3 for Northern Illinois Food Bank’s largest annual awareness and fundraising event, the 12th annual Fight Hunger 10K, 5K, and 1-mile run/walk, presented by ALDI.
This year’s event marked a major milestone, drawing the highest attendance in its 12-year history.
From 8:30 a.m. to noon, attendees enjoyed a festive morning of racing and celebration, with something for everyone, including three scenic race routes, face painting, a kid zone, sponsor booths, free massages, giveaways, a gaming truck, and a variety of food trucks.
The energy was high, and the impact even higher: all funds raised will be matched by US Foods, doubling the support for our neighbors facing hunger.
Ninety-six percent of Northern Illinois Food Bank’s resources go directly to programs that feed neighbors.
Julie Yurko, president and CEO of Northern Illinois Food Bank, and Jason Schultz from Aldi shared inspiring remarks about the power of partnership in the fight against hunger and helped present awards to the race winners. Aldi was recognized for leading the way with the largest team, 255 participants strong.
Northern Illinois Food Bank’s network of 900 food pantries, shelters, soup kitchens, senior sites and feeding programs serve 570,000 neighbors a month and provide 90 million meals a year to neighbors facing hunger in suburban and rural Northern Illinois.
