Explore local history and culture during Museum Week in McHenry and Lake counties
The McHenry County Historical Society and Museum is joining with other institutions in McHenry and Lake counties for the inaugural Museum Week.
It aims to foster a sense of community pride by showcasing the area’s various museums and cultural institutions. This weeklong event invites visitors to discover new museums and exhibits while encouraging exploration of the area.
Starting April 5, Museum Week will feature a county-wide scavenger hunt open to all residents of McHenry and Lake counties. Visitors can begin and end their hunt at their choice of locations, which include McHenry County Historical Society & Museum in Union, Volo Museum, The Nature Center Crystal Lake Park District, Colonel Palmer House, Crystal Lake Public Library, Woodstock Opera House, Woodstock Public Library, McHenry County Conservation District, Powers Walker House, Illinois Railway Museum, and The Dole.
Participants will receive a stamp on their bingo card for each museum they visit, and upon obtaining at least eight stamps, they will earn a prize from that institution. Each institution has discounted or free admission.
Additionally, the McHenry County Historical Society & Museum will host a special event each day during Museum Week, ensuring there is something for everyone to enjoy! Learn more at mchenrycountyhistory.org.
