Some clarifications regarding meeting

I write in response to Emily Piro’s recent commentary, which misrepresents the events of March 13, 2024 — not March 14, as she mistakenly reported. Accuracy is essential, especially when making public accusations.

Her account overlooks the voices of victims and witnesses who bravely spoke that evening about the growing violence in our schools. These individuals deserve to be heard and supported. Neither Ms. Gennaro nor I attended that meeting to support the board or administration; we were there, as members of the non-partisan OUR Pact group, to stand alongside community members who had reached out for help in raising their concerns.

There were moments of acknowledgment — clapping, nodding — when speakers called for accountability. This is common in advocacy settings and should not be mischaracterized. The suggestion that I “doubled over in laughter” is inaccurate. I encourage anyone interested to view the video of the March 13 meeting and draw their own conclusions.

It is also incorrect that we ignored the disruptions that occurred. An email was sent to the board and superintendent immediately after the meeting, condemning the behavior of individuals who were not part of our group and whose actions we do not condone.

Finally, it is important to note that Ms. Piro is part of a group of individuals who have, over a period of years, engaged in persistent efforts to damage my reputation. This pattern of behavior is concerning and should be acknowledged.

We must strive for respectful, fact-based dialogue — especially when addressing sensitive issues that affect our schools and community.
