Pedestrian killed in Island Lake crash identified

A pedestrian struck and killed by a vehicle Friday night in Island Lake has been identified.

Kristen Koehnke, 41, of Island Lake, was in the area of Route 176 east of Water’s Edge Drive about 9:15 p.m. When she was struck by a 2018 Chevrolet Colorado driven by a 21-year-old Glenview woman, according to police.

The Chevrolet was traveling east on Route 176, and Koehnke was believed to have been in the road at the time of the crash, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Autopsy results show Koehnke died from injuries as a result of the crash, according to the coroner’s office.

The driver stopped and no tickets have been issued or charges sought, police said.

Route 176 was closed between Westridge Drive and Darrell Road for about three hours.

Island Lake and the Major Crash Assistance Team of Lake County are investigating.
