Fire confined to kitchen of four-unit townhouse building in Schaumburg

A kitchen fire in one unit of a four-unit townhouse building in Schaumburg Friday morning left one unit uninhabitable, but caused no injuries.

Firefighters received the call to the 600 block of Burgess Court off of Knollwood Drive at 7:02 a.m., arrived at 7:09 a.m. and the fire was declared under control by 7:25 a.m., officials said.

A resident of the unit smelled smoke, called 911 and safely evacuated everyone, according to the Schaumburg Fire Department.

The cause remains under investigation, and the unit where the fire started is the only one currently uninhabitable. Fire officials said it was contained to the kitchen.
