City: Round Lake

Previous offices held: Grant Community High School District 124

Why are you running for this office? Is there a particular issue that motivates you?

I want to give back to my community and my alma mater. I want to continue the work that has been done before I got on the board to bring advancements and opportunities to the students of Grant Community High School.

What is the role of the school board in setting and monitoring the curriculum?

We approve or reject the recommendations of the administration based on facts, with discussions with the rest of the board.

Are there curriculum issues within the district that you feel need particular attention from the board?

No

How do you view your role in confronting policy or curriculum controversies: provide leadership even if unpopular, give a voice to constituents — even ones with whom you disagree, or defer to state authorities?

My role is to make sure the students are afforded a quality education and given the best possible learning environment. We make decisions based on the legal advice and adhering to state and federal statutes. I may not always agree, but I make sure our decisions are what is best for the students.

Describe your experience working in a group setting to determine policy. What is your style in such a setting to reach an agreement and manage school district policy? Explain how you think that will be effective in producing effective actions and decisions for your school board.

I have a lot of experience working in group settings. I am a big proponent of talking things out and letting every voice be heard. We have a diverse group of backgrounds with our current board and that helps to see opposing viewpoints. We work great together and no persons voice carries more weight than the rest.

What is your assessment of the school district's diversity and equity efforts? Do you support the continuation or enhancement of such programs, of would you rather see them diminished. Please explain your reasoning.

I have no issues with the current policies of the school.

What makes you the best candidate for the job?

I have been in this community my whole life. I am a graduate of this school and my children will go to this school. I have been active with the school and community my entire adult life. I bring a practical style of leadership and am willing to work with anyone to better the school and community. I have a strong desire to continue helping this school succeed and build off the advancements that have already been made.

What’s one good idea you have to better your district that no one is talking about yet?

N/A
