Habitat for Humanity to host panel discussion celebrating Women’s History Month

The DuPage and Chicago South Suburbs Habitat for Humanity, with partners DuPage County Historical Museum and Wheaton League of Women Voters, will present a panel discussion celebrating Women’s History Month on Thursday, March 20.

It will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the DuPage County Historical Museum, 102 E. Wesley St. in Wheaton.

The panel, which aligns with this year’s International Women’s Day theme of Accelerate Action, invites attendees to engage in vital conversations about how we can drive meaningful change in our communities.

The discussion will emphasize the importance of collaboration and collective action, particularly highlighting the role of women in shaping the future.

This event will also spotlight Women Build, DuPage and Chicago South Suburbs Habitat’s signature two-week fundraising event in October which kicks off during Women’s History Month.

Women Build encourages people to come together to build homes and support women-led households, highlighting the disproportionate obstacles women face when trying to access decent, affordable housing.

“Habitat has always been a mission driven by the importance of the collective community. In order to know where we are going, we must also recognize where we have been and who we can bring along into the future,” said Amanda Zahorak, senior communications and advocacy manager. “This value of ours is displayed in our panel discussions where we highlight people doing good work in our communities, of course with a tie back to affordable housing and what it means to find home in your surroundings.”

DuPage and Chicago South Suburbs Habitat for Humanity has found it imperative to collaborate with community partners when it comes to having larger, meaningful conversations around important topics.

“The Wheaton League of Women Voters, which serves the communities of Carol Stream, Warrenville, West Chicago, Wheaton and Winfield, is pleased to partner with Habitat for Humanity for the 2025 women in leadership event,” said Maury Goodman, president of Wheaton LWV. “The work that Habitat for Humanity does in helping to provide affordable housing is deeply appreciated.”

“Partnering with DuPage Habitat for Humanity and the League of Women’s Voters on such an important topic has become a tradition for the Museum,” said Michelle Podkowa, museum manager and educator. “Celebrating women and their contributions to DuPage County and beyond, helps reinforce their importance in history.”

Together, these three organizations have hosted the annual celebration of women’s stories for the third year running. This community effort demonstrates what is possible when we continually bring strong female voices to the forefront of conversations about change and working together.
