Glen Ellyn history program to recall Chicago icon Bertha Palmer March 22

On Saturday, March 22, the Glen Ellyn Historical Society presents historian and author Laurie Russell in a program about “The Queen of Chicago,” Bertha Honoré Palmer.

The program, “Bertha Honoré Palmer: A Life in Three Acts,” will be at 2 p.m. at the Glen Ellyn History Center, 800 N. Main St. in Glen Ellyn. This program examines Palmer’s legacy and impact on Chicago and around the world.

Vintage photographs illustrate Palmer’s life from early childhood, her marriage to hotel magnate Potter Palmer, the Great Chicago Fire and the Columbian Exposition. Her exquisite jewels and gowns, the fact that she brought impressionism to the Art Institute and that she was a cattle boss in Sarasota, Florida, are all included in the program.

Admission is $5 or free for historical society members and youth under age 18. For information, call (630) 469-1867 and check the website at www.gehs.org.
