Wheaton’s Gary UMC to host author talk on March 12

Hear the Rev. Jennifer Powell McNutt discuss her book, “The Mary We Forgot: What the Apostle to the Apostles Teaches the Church Today” on Wednesday, March 12, at Gary United Methodist Church in Wheaton.

McNutt is an award-winning church historian and theologian. She will talk about how Mary Magdalene’s life was transformed when she was healed by Christ and joined his ministry from Galilee to Jerusalem. Mary Magdalene was also a witness at the cross and the first one sent by Christ to preach his resurrection.

It will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the church, 224 N. Main St.

This author talk on March 12 will then lead into two weeks of discussions about the book on Wednesdays, March 19 and 26. Participants will discuss how Mary Magdalene can be viewed as a model of discipleship for both men and women today.

On Wednesday, April 9 at 6:30 p.m., the midweek Lenten study will wrap up with a performance by professional storyteller Megan Wells, who will bring the story of Mary Magdalene to life.

The church, founded in 1853, has music, kids, youth and adult ministries, plus opportunities for local, national and global missions. The church offers worship at 9 and 11:11 a.m. Between services, there’s Sunday school for all ages, a coffee fellowship hour, plus the chapel is available for prayer and reflection.
