Wheaton’s Gary UMC offers class on the journey of Black Methodists
The Rev. Dwight Stewart will lead “We’ve Come This Far By Faith: The Journey of Black Methodists,” on Sundays, Feb. 16 and 23, at 10:10 a.m. at Gary United Methodist Church, 224 N. Main St. in Wheaton.
The class will look at the history of Black people in the Methodist church — a journey which has had its share of pain and struggle, and yet faith has helped them to survive. In this class, they will visit the past to find hope for the future.
The church, founded in 1853, has music, kids, youth and adult ministries, plus opportunities for local, national and global missions. Worship is at 9 and 11:11 a.m. In-between services, there’s Sunday school for all ages, a coffee fellowship hour, plus the chapel is available for prayer and reflection.
