Schaumburg village hall’s moving days set, expected to be well under budget

Schaumburg officials have scheduled their March move from the soon-to-be-replaced 52-year-old village hall to a temporary location.

Trustees are also reviewing a $120,481 contract with Mid-West Moving and Storage, Inc.of Elk Grove Village. Moving costs of about $200,000 had been anticipated.

The firm submitted the lowest of four bids and received positive reviews from Cook County and the city of Chicago.

The move to the temporary village hall at 1000 E. Woodfield Road will occur over two successive weekends.

The first phase will begin March 13 to relocate the offices of current first-floor staff, who will be ready to work at the temporary site March 17. The same process will be repeated for staff on the lower level from March 20 to March 24.

The Mid-West contract doesn’t include such equipment as printers and copiers whose service agreements require relocation by those providers.

The 204,000-square-foot temporary building bought for $5.45 million will be demolished later for the village’s next police station. The $1.47 million budgeted to make it habitable includes about $300,000 of equipment that will go to the permanent village hall in December 2026.

Itasca-based Williams Architects designed the new building for $1.8 million.
