Eagle Scout candidate designs raised garden bed for Lombard church

For his Eagle Scout project, John Scott of Lombard Troop 51 built a raised garden bed for Lombard’s Faith United Methodist Church where he is a member.

A Scout for the past 11 years, the Glenbard East High School senior was introduced to Scouting early on by his mother, Bernadette, as a Cub Scout leader and the positive scouting experiences of other family members.

According to John, the mission of his project is to attract and welcome visitors to experience the dedication, commitment and love of the Faith UMC family. He designed every detail of the outdoor raised garden, including a removable metal arch to make it easily accessible for church members to maintain the garden. John raised the funds to cover all expenses for materials. He shared he was inspired by other gardens and is specifically pleased with the stained wood finish. John was quick to say that he is most appreciative for the faithful support of his fellow Scouts, his brother and fellow Scout Will, and his family to complete the four-month project before Christmas Eve.

John awaits the approval of his project by the Scout council and then the board of review before being certified and celebrated at his Eagle Scout ceremony, which may be in late winter or early spring of 2025. Only about 6% of Scouts achieve the rank of Eagle Scout.

The Faith UMC family appreciates his beautiful gift to the church, and looks forward to celebrating with him when he is conferred as an Eagle Scout.
