Final bond payment means savings for Countryside Fire Protection District taxpayers

Vernon Hills-based Countryside Fire Protection District has made the final payment on bonds used to finance the 2006-2007 demolition and rebuild of satellite Station 1, 801 S. Midlothian Road in Mundelein.

About 73% of voters in April 2005 approved the district’s request to borrow by issuing $5 million in construction bonds for the project designed to modernize district facilities and enhance emergency response capabilities.

Owners of a home valued at $500,000 have been paying an average of about $85 annually toward the bond repayment. The tax levy associated with the payment will be removed, according to fire Chief Chuck Smith.

Station 1 serves the western part of the 24-square mile district.
