Prominent civil rights attorney Fred Gray delivers keynote address at sold-out MLK Unity Breakfast
More than 1,400 attendees enjoyed the sold-out DuPage County “I Have a Dream” Martin Luther King Jr. Unity breakfast on Monday, Jan. 20, with the program commemorating Dr. King’s legacy of leadership, unity, and service.
The keynote speaker was Fred Gray, a Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient and prominent civil rights attorney. He is known for representing Rosa Parks, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and victims of the Tuskegee Syphilis Study.
Gray’s address drew from his experiences during the civil rights movement and reflected on how Dr. King’s message continues to resonate today.
The annual event at Drury Lane in Oakbrook Terrace featured performances from Grammy Award-winning gospel artist Rev. Darius Brooks, the MLK Celebration Choir, and the Young Naperville Singers.
Proceeds from the breakfast supported the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Fund of the DuPage Foundation, a permanently-endowed fund seeded by The Inland Real Estate Group of Companies Inc. and supported by many community partners.
The fund augments the foundation’s annual Community Impact grant program in the areas of health, human services, and education, with a focus on supporting DuPage 501(c)(3) public charities that prioritize serving Black, Indigenous, and People of Color.
