Cabaret in the Commons with Jeannie Tanner and Stacy McMichael
Join Glenview Community Church at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, in its Commons area for Jeannie Tanner and Stacy McMichael playing and singing a variety of styles from pop to rock to jazz with a few of Tanner’s original songs in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday. Tanner is a composer, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist with nine Grammy considered albums and five ASCAP composer awards. McMichael is a veteran of Broadway in Chicago shows. She is a is a frequent player with Teatro ZinZanni and has recently been seen playing the bass in the Chicago production of “SIX.” A freewill offering will be collected.
Jeannie Tanner is a singer-songwriter, vocalist, piano player, trumpeter, percussionist and producer who performs and records her original music: a mix of pop, jazz, R&B and Latin rhythms. Tanner’s music has been used for many television shows including “Single Ladies” on VH1, produced by Queen Latifah; “Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings” on Netflix; “Culinary Travels with Dave Eckert” on PBS/The Travel Channel; “Revenge” on ABC; “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” on Bravo; and “Fox NFL Kickoff” and “Days of Our Lives” on NBC.
Her music has been featured in many movies including “A Christmas Duet,” “Christmas Cookies,” “Signed, Sealed, Delivered for Christmas” and “Christmas in the Air,” all on Hallmark; and “Doomsday Mom” on Lifetime, as well as indie films “Blame It On Toby,” starring Kevin J. O’Connor; and “Scrooge and Marley,” starring David Pevsner, Tim Kazurinsky and Rusty Schwimmer.
As a performer, Tanner has headlined at top Chicago area venues and festivals performing with her groups 3 Martini Jeannie and the Jeannie Tanner Quartet, including City Winery, Taste of Chicago, Winter’s Jazz Club, Andy’s Jazz Club, the Park West, Victory Gardens Biograph Theatre, Ottawa 2 Rivers Wine and Jazz Festival, Pete Miller’s, Eddie V’s, Reggies, Davenport’s, the Highwood Music Festival, the Redhead Music Festival and the Arts Clubs of Chicago.
Stacy McMichael is a thriving professional upright and electric bassist and educator, who has been featured onstage in Broadway shows and tours such as “1776,” “Dreamgirls,” “Cabaret ZaZou,” “Hairspray,” “Teatro ZinZanni,” “Taste of Things to Come,” and the smash-hit “SIX: the Musical.” Stacy entertained over 70,000 fans onstage at Lollapalooza Paris performing with superstar dj Kygo.
In addition to her performance career, McMichael serves as a governor on the Chicago Chapter Board of the Recording Academy, which she initially joined via the Grammy U program. It is her unique “Grammy U to Grammy Governor” origin story that provides constant motivation to work hard making sure the Academy provides the most value to the creative community.
McMichael’s diverse musical accomplishments include a Number 1 debut album on the Billboard Traditional Jazz chart (featuring Frank Catalano and Smashing Pumpkins drummer Jimmy Chamberlin); an upcoming musical film and cast album by two-time Grammy winners Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer “All Wigged Out”; multiple TV and podcast appearances; national publication articles; international tours; a Joan Rivers televised special; and a PBS concert feature of the band of which she has led for over 15 years: lePercolateur.
McMichael is also a dedicated mentor and educator. Along with her Grammy U work, she maintains the role of Adjunct Professor at institutions like Joliet Junior College, Olivet Nazarene University, City Colleges of Chicago and Saint Xavier University.
Glenview Community Church is at 1000 Elm St., at Glenview Road. The building is handicap accessible and has free on-site parking. It is three blocks west of the Glenview Metra North train station.
