Aurora gymnastics coaches given misconduct suspensions, will appeal

A sports regulatory agency issued nine-month suspensions last week to top staff at a prestigious Aurora gymnastics center, including a former Olympics alternate.

Legacy Elite Gymnastics owner and coach Jiani Wu and her daughter, head coach Anna Li, were both suspended as of Wednesday through Oct. 8, 2025, by the U.S. Center for SafeSport.

The cause was “physical and emotional misconduct,” SafeSport reported. That decision, however, is subject to appeal and not yet final.

Legacy Elite officials did not return a request for comment. Attorneys for the gymnastics center told ABC 7 the allegations were false and they planned to appeal.

The review by SafeSport came after multiple complaints from gymnasts, the station reported.

SafeSport is a nonprofit organization authorized by Congress to investigate and prevent abuses in sports.

Wu is a former Olympian who won the bronze medal in gymnastics for China in 1984 and has worked as a coach for the U.S. national team. Li was an alternate on the gold-medal winning U.S. gymnastics team in 2012 and U.S. Championships medalist.

Mother and daughter talked about Olympics experiences with the Daily Herald in 2012.

“The main thing that I enjoy about gymnastics is giving back, especially because I told the girls to never give up their dreams,” Li said at the time.
