Skeletal remains found in Bolingbrook identified by Will County coroner
The remains discovered in a Will County forest preserve last month have been identified as those of a Minnesota man who was reported missing by family members in July, Will County Coroner Laurie Summers announced Thursday.
The remains, which were discovered in the Hidden Lakes Preserve on the afternoon of Dec. 14, have been identified as those of David A. McCord, a 36-year-old man from Minneapolis.
The remains were discovered by a resident looking through the wooded area for deer antlers, who notified the police, according to the news release from the coroner’s office.
Bolingbrook police investigators searched the area and discovered several personal items of McCord’s, including an ID, the release stated.
The body was identified with assistance from the Minneapolis police, who obtained a DNA sample from McCord’s family for comparison, University of Illinois Forensic Anthropologist Dr. Cris Hughes, and Independent Forensics of Lombard, according to the release.
A human skull previously discovered in the same vicinity in October is now also undergoing additional testing to determine whether it is McCord’s or is related to the case, according to the coroner’s office.
