Resident jumps from second floor to escape fire in Bloomingdale townhouse

A resident jumped from a second-floor window to escape a fire Friday evening that resulted in $100,000 damage to a townhouse in Bloomingdale.

Firefighters called about 5:40 p.m. to the 200 block of Tamarack Drive saw smoke coming from a second-floor window and a woman on the lawn, according to Chief Matthew Beyer of the Bloomingdale Fire Protection District.

The woman was upstairs when the fire started and was unable to get out due to smoke and fire on the first floor, he said.

She was taken to a hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries. No one else was found in the home and no other injuries reported.

Beyer said the fire started in the living room on the first floor by a fireplace and remains under investigation. The main body of the fire was on the first floor to the rear of the home and was extinguished within 30 minutes, Beyer said.

The gas and water was shut off and the building red tagged and boarded up, he added.
