Bowling for a Cause: Join the Illinois Spina Bifida Association’s Winter Bowl-A-Thon in Wheaton
The Illinois Spina Bifida Association invites you to lace up your bowling shoes and join an afternoon of community and charity at the Wheaton Winter Bowl-A-Thon on Saturday, Dec. 14, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Fox Bowl in Wheaton.
This family-friendly event brings together residents, local heroes, and businesses to support the association’s mission to improve the quality of life for children, adults, and families living with spina bifida. As a 501(c)3 nonprofit charity, it empowers over 1,000 families across Illinois through programs that promote independence, provide outreach and advocacy, and offer vital financial assistance.
One of the event’s highlights is the exciting showdown between the Wheaton Police Department, Wheaton Fire Department, and Wheaton Public Works Department. Organized by Police Chief Princeton Youker — a longtime ISBA supporter whose niece, Aggie, 8, lives with spina bifida — this friendly competition promises fun, camaraderie, and a coveted trophy (not to mention ultimate bragging rights).
Chief Youker shared his deep appreciation for ISBA, stating, “ISBA has created a powerful community of hope and support for families like mine. It’s inspiring to see how their programs touch lives, and I’m proud to rally Wheaton’s departments to give back to this incredible cause.”
The event is a testament to the generosity of the Wheaton community, with numerous local businesses sponsoring lanes, donating raffle items, and showing up to support the Illinois Spina Bifida Association.
Attendees will enjoy $50 per person includes two hours of bowling, shoe rental, pizza, and soda buffet; and raffles filled with donated items from local businesses.
Participants also can meet ISBA families and learn how the organization makes a difference. Sign up at i-sba.org/bowl.
Why this event matters
Spina bifida is a lifelong neurological condition affecting the spine, often resulting in physical and developmental challenges requiring specialized care and attention. Through innovative programs — such as executive functioning coaching, assistive sports funds donated by Paralympian Kendall Gretsch, vocational rehabilitation, and community-building events — the Illinois Spina Bifida Association provides critical support for families statewide.
Whether you’re looking to bowl, cheer on Wheaton’s departments, or simply enjoy a day of fun for a great cause, they invite everyone to be part of this inspiring event. Together, let’s celebrate the resilience and achievements of those living with spina bifida and the community that uplifts them.
