Local scout completes Eagle Scout Project
Aidan Hurley, a member of Scouts BSA Troop 499 in Schaumburg, recently completed his Eagle Scout project. Benefiting Camp Sunrise Outdoor Education Center in Bartlett, Aidan and his crew of 25 volunteers worked over three work days to remove debris and buckthorn near the front gate. Clearing the area allows the camp to have a controlled burn of the area. Camp Sunrise plans to put in a walking trail aimed to educate visitors about different ecological systems.
“I wanted to do something to benefit future generations,” Hurley said.
He chose Camp Sunrise because of his past experiences at the camp.
“Throughout my scout career, I’ve faced many obstacles: struggling to get a certain merit badge, tasks, or skills,” he said. “I’ve felt the support from my leaders and fellow scouts to help further my understanding and leadership skills for the project such as delegation, organization, and directing people where to go and what to do. Challenges came my way and we were able to overcome them with camp staff and advice from my leaders and fellow scouts. I appreciate all of the help for my project and scouting career.”
