Experience the holidays from the 1840s by Candlelight

The aroma of fresh-cut evergreens, the warmth of a crackling fire, the harmony of holiday music, and the flicker of candlelight will be just some of the immersive encounters during Candlelight at the Durant-Peterson House Museum on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 7-8.

Built in 1843, the Durant-Peterson House Museum, lit only by candlelight and oil lamps, will open from 3 to 7 p.m.

The nearby Sholes School Museum, built in 1872, will host a traditional children’s Christmas pageant. Visitors can enjoy the program at 3:30, 4:15, 5:30 or 6:30 p.m. Each show is about 20 minutes and seating is limited.

The Durant-Peterson House and Sholes School Museums are located within the LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve at 37W700 Dean St. in St. Charles.

Tickets, which include both museums, are $5 or $1 per child under age 18.

Entry times are at half-hour intervals at the Durant-Peterson House Museum to ease congestion. The pageant can be seen before or after visiting the Durant-Peterson House.
