Schaumburg P.E.O.s volunteer to ‘Feed My Starving Children’
Twelve members of the Schaumburg P-LK Chapter of P.E.O. recently volunteered to pack food at the Feed My Starving Children headquarters in Schaumburg.
During orientation, which the P.E.O.s attended along with other volunteer groups, they learned that the food packets they would be filling contain vitamins, vegetables, soy protein and rice. Some of the P.E.O. volunteers filled packets of food; others worked in the labeling department.
Feed My Starving Children, established in 1987, has permanent fulfillment centers in Arizona, Illinois, Minnesota, and Texas. Additionally, it hosts special fulfillment events in other states. Information is available on its website, fmsc.org.
Food is distributed throughout the world, including countries in Africa, Asia and the Middle East, among others.
FMSC welcomes volunteers, both individuals as well as groups, to pack food. It also welcomes individuals to serve as speakers and ambassadors of the program. Donations are also accepted. Approximately 90% of all donations go toward purchasing foodstuffs.
The 12 P.E.O. members who were able to participate in FMSC service project were Jane Walters, Judie Truelsen, Dawn Amos, Linda Segall, Mary Hengels, Patty Warren, Pam Zielinski, Karen Willden, Rita Tweed, Marcy Schilling, Mary Jo Vetter and Janet McDonald.
