One hurt in acid leak at Wauconda extract plant
An acid leak Tuesday morning at a plant in Wauconda that manufactures flavor extracts for foods injured one worker and caused the plant to shut down for the day.
Firefighters and hazardous materials crews were called to the Synergy Flavors facility on the 1500 block of Synergy Drive just before 10:45 a.m. for a report of an acid leak from a 55-gallon drum.
One worker was transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation, fire officials said. The worker’s condition is unknown.
The plant was closed for the remainder of the day to allow cleanup crews to remove the spill and compromised container.
