Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band to present annual fall concert, ‘A Heard of Goats’
The Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band will present its 24th Annual Fall Concert at 7 p.m. on Saturday Nov. 16, at Vernon Hills High School, 145 Lakeview Parkway in Vernon Hills. This concert, “A Heard’ of Goats,” will feature music of the finest composers from the 19th and 20th centuries, some originally for wind bands and others transcribed from music written originally for orchestra.
Featured composers include Persichetti, Verdi, Weber, Johann Strauss, Bizet, Stravinsky and Aaron Copland. There will be multiple featured soloists from the band as well, including Randy Murray (trumpet), music director, Howard Green (clarinet), and former WFMT Radio Host Scott Thomas narrating “A Lincoln Portrait.” The Band will also present the complete suites of music from the beloved opera “Carmen” by Georges Bizet.
“This concert will provide selections for almost all interests and promises to be an exciting and enjoyable evening,” said Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band Director Howard Green. “If you have ever heard some of our selections played by orchestras, you will be pleased and surprised by the colors that can be achieved when they are performed by a concert band.”
The Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band, now in its 24th year, is one of the premier community bands in Northern Illinois and is a program of the village of Buffalo Grove, its founding music director, Howard Green and associate conductor, Allison Rakickas.
Ticket prices for adults are $10 in advance, and $12 at the door; seniors (55 and older) and students with ID are $8. Advance tickets are available for purchase online at tickets.bgsb.org, as well as at Buffalo Grove Village Hall, 50 Raupp Blvd., or from any band member.
