St. Charles Public Library offers Alzheimer’s workshop for caregivers

Worldwide, 55 million people are living with Alzheimer's and other dementias.

If you or someone you know is affected by Alzheimer's disease or dementia, learn more at an “Alzheimer’s Workshop: Lunch and Learn” on Wednesday, Nov. 13, at the St. Charles Public Library. It will be 11 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at the library, 1 S. Sixth Ave.

Join fellow caregivers for a brief respite to learn more about behavioral and financial considerations associated with Alzheimer’s, and enjoy a light lunch between the two presentations. Representatives from the Alzheimer’s Association will present two topics.

“Responding to Dementia-Related Behaviors” kicks off the event from 11 to 11:45 a.m. This portion of the program details common behavior changes and how they are a form of communication, nonmedical approaches to behaviors, and recognizing when additional help is needed. Lunch will be served from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

From 12:15 to 1:15 p.m., “Managing Money: A Caregiver’s Guide to Finances” provides guidance on the costs of caregiving, how to avoid financial abuse and fraud, how to start conversations about finances, assess financial and legal needs, and find support.

Registration is required for this event, but attendance at both sessions is not required. To register, visit scpld.org or call (630) 584-0076.
