Schaumburg offers sustainable way to dispose post-Halloween pumpkins
The Schaumburg Engineering & Public Works Department is partnering with Lakeshore Recycling Systems to offer a more sustainable way for people to dispose their pumpkins after Halloween.
From Friday, Nov. 1 through Sunday, Nov. 3, residents are invited to drop off their pumpkins for composting in the designated boxes located in the parking lots of either the Al Larson Prairie Center for the Arts, 201 Schaumburg Court, or the Schaumburg Police Department, 1000 W. Schaumburg Road.
Residents are asked to remove any non-compostable materials such as glitter, candle wax and any other plastic before dropping off their pumpkins. There’s no limit on the number of pumpkins you can bring, and this free, drop-and-go event is open to the public.
Composting pumpkins not only helps keep waste out of landfills, but also reduces greenhouse gas emissions and conserves water. Learn more about organic composting in Schaumburg by visiting schaumburg.com/yardwaste.
