DuPage Symphony Orchestra to host free open rehearsal Nov. 14

The DuPage Symphony Orchestra invites the community to experience a special behind-the-scenes look at a classical music performance during a free open rehearsal on Thursday, Nov. 14.

The event will take place at 7:30 p.m. at North Central College’s Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave. in Naperville. Attendees can enjoy complimentary refreshments provided by MyChef Catering and the opportunity to meet DSO musicians after the first part of the rehearsal.

The evening features soloist Tristan Zhu, the 2023 Young Artists Auditions winner, who will be rehearsing alongside the DSO under the direction of Maestra Barbara Schubert. This rehearsal provides a rare glimpse into the meticulous preparation that goes into a professional concert, offering a chance for all community members to learn more about classical music in a relaxed and welcoming setting.

Guests are encouraged to come and go as they please, making it an ideal event for those who wish to drop in for a portion of the rehearsal or stay for the entire evening.

“This open rehearsal is a wonderful opportunity for the community to experience the artistry and hard work that takes place behind the scenes,” said Mari Ullrick, strategic director of operations and engagement. “It’s a chance for people of all ages, particularly families, to get a feel for the concert environment, meet our musicians, and enjoy an evening of music in acoustically perfect Wentz Concert Hall.”

At approximately 8:30 p.m. during the musicians’ break, attendees are invited to a meet-and-greet with Maestra Schubert and DSO musicians, where they can enjoy light refreshments. After the meet-and-greet, guests are welcome to leave if they wish or stay for the remainder of the rehearsal.
