Bloomingdale to host ‘Paper, Paint and Pumpkin’ recycling event Nov. 2

Residents of Bloomingdale, mark your calendars for the Paper Shredding & E-Recycling Event on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 8 a.m. to noon at the public works facility, 305 Glen Ellyn Road. This event offers a convenient way to recycle your items responsibly while helping the environment.

As November rolls around, billions of jack-o’-lanterns with wilting faces will be looking for a new home. While tossing pumpkins into the trash may seem like the easiest option, it’s not the most environmentally friendly choice. Instead, Bloomingdale residents can drop off their pumpkins at the Pumpkin, Paint & Paper Recycling Event, where they will be collected and composted.

This event is open exclusively to village of Bloomingdale residents, and IDs will be checked upon arrival. Please note that paint and paperwork from businesses will not be accepted.

Several items will be collected during the event, including:

• Pumpkins for composting

• Paper for shredding; it will not be shredded on-site but will be taken to SBC's facility for shredding.

• Eyeglasses for the Lions Club

• Used cellphones for the Soldiers program

• Christmas lights and artificial trees

• Hot water tanks

• White goods (refrigerators, washing machines, dryers, ovens)

• Extension cords

• Liquid paint in cans or containers (up to 5 gallons), including latex, acrylic, and water-based paints. Containers must be closed and sealed with a handwritten or product label.

Please note that certain items will not be accepted, such as: paint thinners or removers, cleaners, paint mixed with other chemicals, unlabeled containers, adhesives, caulk, roofing compounds, or driveway sealers, spackle, Sheetrock, or joint compounds, or any chemicals or waste other than paint.
