Schaumburg to provide environmentally-friendly pumpkin disposal Nov. 1-3

The Schaumburg Engineering & Public Works Department is partnering with Lakeshore Recycling Systems (LRS) to offer a more sustainable way to dispose of your pumpkins after Halloween.

From Friday, Nov. 1 through Sunday, Nov. 3, area residents are invited to drop off their pumpkins for composting in the designated boxes located in the parking lots of two convenient locations:

• Al Larson Prairie Center for the Arts, 201 Schaumburg Court.

• Schaumburg Police Department, 1000 W. Schaumburg Rd.

Residents are asked to remove any non-compostable materials such as glitter, candle wax and any other plastic before dropping off their pumpkins. There’s no limit on the number of pumpkins you can bring, and this free, drop-and-go event is open to the public.

Composting pumpkins not only helps keep waste out of landfills, but it also reduces greenhouse gas emissions and conserves water — all of which makes a positive environmental impact. Learn more about organic composting in Schaumburg by visiting schaumburg.com/yardwaste.
