Roselle Lions to host blood drive Nov. 9 in honor of longtime club member

The Roselle Lions Club is sponsoring a blood drive on Nov. 9 in memory of longtime Lion and community activist Maryann Grygiel.

The blood drive will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Roselle American Legion, 444 E. Maple in Roselle.

Persons wishing to donate blood can pre-register at tinyurl.com/donate-blood-11-19-24. Walk -ins are welcome but a slight waiting time may be necessary to accommodate them.

Donors should be sure to eat a healthy meal and drink plenty of water before donating and must bring a photo ID to the event.

Maryann Grygiel, who passed away in July, was a longtime member of the Roselle Lions Club. In addition, she was Roselle chair for the Relay For Life of the Cancer Society, Boy Scout troop committee chair, chair of the Rose Parade Ambassador program, member of the American Legion Auxiliary. and many more volunteer events and organizations. The Lions Club’s semi-annual blood drives were started by her several years ago and were chaired by her.

Every donation is critical and can make a lifesaving difference. Every two seconds patients with trauma, undergoing surgery, or with conditions that require blood transfusions need blood and blood products.

A single blood donation can save up to three lives. Most blood types fall into one of the four major groups: A, B, AB, or O. However, some people have rare blood types that fall outside the major groups, and for those patients, a more diverse blood supply is needed.
