Dining out: Happy hours, Worldwide Wellington Month
Happy hour specials are always a welcome way to help wind down after a long day. It’s also Worldwide Wellington Month, with celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay answering the call.

Several suburban restaurants are promoting new happy hour specials.
El Tapeo in Oak Brook is offering Golden Hour specials from 4-6 p.m. each weeknight, with a selection of five tapas for $60 or six for $70. Mondays feature $10 off any paella, $7 glasses of house sangria and $6 select Tito’s cocktails. On Tuesdays, glasses of wine are half-price and Wednesdays bring half-price martinis. Thursdays are Ladies Night Out with a complimentary charcuterie board with any purchase, a gift certificate raffle at 7 p.m. and half-price bottles of wine. Fridays feature $6 Effen vodka cocktails.
Il Mio in Clarendon Hills recently launched a new happy hour that runs from 4-5:30 p.m. daily in the bar. Take advantage of $10 specialty cocktails and $8 wine, while food offerings include $4 meatball, Italian sausage or burger sliders; $8 filet sliders; $8 for four wings in a variety of flavors; $10 chips and guac; $4 garlic rolls; and skewer specials of chicken ($6), shrimp ($7) and steak ($10).
Puttshack in Oak Brook debuted its happy hour menu this month, available from 3-6 p.m. Monday through Thursday with exclusive food and drinks priced at $6. Specials include Southwest chicken quesadillas, onion dip, loaded tots and Nashville hot bao buns. Wash them down with 16-ounce draft beers, High Noon and Gin & Juice cans, and The Wines of Francis Coppola Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. Puttshack will be hosting a coat drive through Oct. 29. Guests who donate a new or gently worn coat, which will be donated to a local nonprofit, will receive a free game card.
Truluck’s is introducing its new TRU Ninety-Two prix fixe menu, featuring a starter and an entrée, for $49. The special menu is available until 6 p.m. every day for a limited time. Entrées include broiled salmon, seared tuna, scallop and shrimp sauté, 6-ounce filet mignon, chicken stroganoff and pappardelle Bolognese.
Worldwide Wellington Month
When you’re a chef synonymous with beef Wellington, you have to celebrate Worldwide Wellington Month with something special.
Gordon Ramsay is that chef, and his restaurants are offering a limited-edition Truffle Beef Wellington for two for $150. The Truffle Beef Wellington is an elevated spin on Ramsay’s classic recipe, with a roasted bone marrow and shallot sauce and a truffle potato puree. Guests can add fresh shaved truffles for $40 and pair a bottle of Daou Cabernet Sauvignon for $60. It’s available until Nov. 3 at Ramsay’s Kitchen at 39 W. Jefferson Ave., Naperville.
Key battle
Windy City Dueling Pianos brings their high-energy entertainment to Lakeside Plaza at Three Embers at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, with Pianos on the Patio. Character brunch
Halloween is just around the corner, so Wonderverse in Oak Brook is hosting Hotel Transylvania-themed character brunches featuring photo ops with characters from the film. The brunch features Phantom Potatoes O’Brian, Zombacon and Screambled Eggs, Monster Mac and Cheese, Frightened Fries, Terror Tenders, and Cryptic Cheesecake and Broomstick Brownies. Reservation times are between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, Oct. 19-20 and 26-27. Tickets are $35 and come with a complimentary $20 arcade play card. Kids 2 and younger dine for free.
