Friends’ Mount Prospect Public Library mega Oct. 19-20 Book Sale has treasures for everyone at right price

How to make money and music, build a car, peruse ‘who done its’, revisit history and fashion, and car racing are just some of the topics shoppers will find among the thousands of books, and 100s of DVDs, CDs, games, and puzzles at the mega Saturday, Oct. 19 (9 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.) and Sunday, Oct. 20 (11 a.m.-4 p.m.) Friends of the Mount Prospect Public Library Fall Book Sale. All for bargain prices. Admission and parking are free.

The library is at 10 S. Emerson St., Mount Prospect.

“Folks of all ages can find their favorite authors or new ones as they look through our vast array of more than 25,000 books in the three sale areas at the library,” Friends of the Mount Prospect Public Library President Pat Klawitter said. “It’s an adventure as one makes their way through the expansive first floor better books room full of novels, children’s and teen books, cookbooks, DVDs and more. The downstairs Friends room has even more novels, bios, travel books, a newly acquired collection of automobile books, and much more for bargain prices of $1 for hard covers and 50¢ for paperbacks. And, finally, in the garage sale area, people will find a huge section on children’s books, tables and tables of fiction and nonfiction paperbacks, large type hardcovers, CDs and other cool stuff all for a quarter.

“Knowledgeable Friends volunteers can help shoppers maneuver the three areas to help them find what they’re looking for,” Klawitter continued. “We also urge shoppers to check out our ‘Goldmine’ section in the better books area where they will find valuable, vintage, autographed and rare books, and, other cool items.”

The sale includes a large number of books on -muscle/classic cars and their designers such as Shelby and Ford, in like-new condition; Chilton and other car repair manuals, 1960s-1970s, for 50¢ each; financial scams and crimes; more than 500 late 2023 and 2024 novels; world language books including a collection of Italian and East Asian language books; and, 100 plus elementary grade student workbooks.

Also available are top song books, sheet music, reference and textbooks, comic books and graphic novels, all in great shape.

Klawitter said 95% of what’s on sale has been donated by area residents; 50% are hardcover and 20% are children’s books. The better books run anywhere from $2 to $10 with rare/autographed books priced a bit higher. Credit cards are accepted. Additionally, there is checkout assistance and handcarts available for large purchases.

New Friends volunteers are welcome, Klawitter said. Just go to friendsofmppl.org for news and information on how to join and/or donate items.

All proceeds from the Friends’ (a 501(c) (3) charitable organization) book sale go back to the community supporting library programs, patron services and staff initiatives.

“No matter what your interests are you’ll find it here!” Klawitter said.
