College of DuPage students nominated for Multiple IBA Silver Dome and Emmy Awards

Six entries by students in the College of DuPage’s Motion Picture/Television program have been named finalists for the 2024 Illinois Broadcast Association Student Silver Dome Awards.

The submissions, which include broadcasts from Courier TV, as well as independent projects by students in the program will be recognized at this year’s annual IBA Silver Dome Awards event on Monday, Oct. 8.

Three submissions are also being recognized by the Student Production Awards in individual Newscast, Sports and Animation/Graphics/Special Effects categories.

The TV segments selected as Silver Dome Award finalists include: “Courier TV News — May 13, 2024” and “Courier TV News — April 15, 2024,” produced by students Laokratis Cios, Brianna Yeager, William Kinkead, Ben Ellenby, Hannah Smith, Ryan Karlin, and Billy O’Brien; for Best TV Newscast. “The Every Day Life of Everyday Cups,” produced by Sofi Tongson and “The Demon” produced by Jose Luis Rivas for Best TV Longform Entertainment Programing; “Inaugural Lacrosse Teams — College of DuPage,” produced by Laokratis Cios and Brianna Yeager for Best TV Sports Package, and “Doodlebug” produced by Laokratis Cios, Brianna Yeager and Hannah Smith for Best TV Photojournalism.

This year’s winners will be announced on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at the Bone Student Center on the Illinois State University campus.

Courier TV, which debuted in spring 2015, covers campus life while providing students with hands-on opportunities to learn about journalism and television production.

Students in the “Advanced TV Production” course do everything from on-camera reporting to behind-the-scenes writing, editing and directing.

Three productions have also been recognized by the Student Production Awards in individual categories.

“Courier TV News — March 14, 2024” produced by students Laokratis Cios, Brianna Yeager, William Kinkead, Ben Ellenby, Hannah Smith, Bianca Tolbert, Ryan Karlin and Billy O’Brien were recognized in the College Student Production — Newscast category.

Ben Ellenby, Ryan Karlin, Sam Kupres and Billy O’Brien were recognized for “Red Grange Bowl — 2023” in the Sports category.

Sofi Tongson and Erik Perez were nominated for “The Every Day Life of Everyday Cups” and “Sprout” respectively in the Animation/Graphics/Special Effects category.

The Student Production Awards (Emmys) will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Swissotel Hotel, 323 E. Wacker, Chicago.
