Elsinore puts on tale of faith and morality in ‘Hand to God’

Elsinore’s production of “Hand to God” by Robert Askins continues through Oct. 13. The shows are 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 3 p.m. Sundays at First United Methodist Church, 216 E. Highland Ave. in Elgin.

After the death of his father, meek Jason finds an outlet for his anxiety at the Christian Puppet Ministry, in the devoutly religious, relatively quiet small town of Cypress, Texas. Jason’s complicated relationships with the town pastor, the school bully, the girl next door, and — most especially — his mother are thrown into upheaval when Jason’s puppet, Tyrone, takes on a shocking and dangerously irreverent personality all its own. “Hand to God” explores the startlingly fragile nature of faith, morality, and the ties that bind us.

General admission tickets are $25 or $22 for students, seniors or military. For tickets, go to www.onthestage.tickets/show/elsinore/66aab27eaeb12b02c4f3b288/.

The cast features Thomas Neumann as Jason/Tyrone; Lori Rohr as Margery; Jamie Ewing as Pastor Greg; Paige Bourne as Jessica; and Jacob Dorris as Timothy.

The director is JJ Gatesman with fight choreographer and intimacy coordinator Charlie Baker. This performance runs 2 hours including a 15-minute intermission.
