The North Suburban YMCA hosted its seventh annual SeniorPalooza, a health and funfair for older adults, on Wednesday, Sept. 18. The event was free and open to the community and brought in a wide variety of local organizations and businesses offering wellness presentations, health screenings, giveaways, raffles prizes, immunizations clinic and more. The event featured over 55 vendors/sponsors and brought in over 300 guests this year.

The event also offered a YMCA Education Series (Y.E.S.) “Lunch and Learn” presented by Illinois Bone & Joint Institute. Dr. Andrew Benck, from Illinois Bone and Joint Institute spoke on Bone Health and Understanding Osteoporosis. With over 80 guests in attendance, the presentation included both a video portion and a Q&A.

Presentations like this one, are part of the YMCA Education Series (Y.E.S.) which is a series of free presentations by local professionals covering topics related to physical, mental, and social health and well-being. The presentations are also recorded as podcasts and made available on the NSYMCA YouTube Platform. You can find the list of YES presentations available free to the community by visiting, nsymca.org/programs-classes/community/ymca-education-series.

“Now in our seventh year, SeniorPalooza continues to get better and better with more vendors each year and we are so proud of it,” exclaims Kathy Fielding, CEO at the NSYMCA.

“Seniors comprise 20% of the Y’s membership, so free events like SeniorPalooza are so important to our community. Our mission for events like this one helps bring our community together for the purpose of education, free screenings, healthy living tips and much more,” continues Fielding.

The NSYMCA has made the well-being of older adults a top priority by providing programs for the spirit, mind & body. The NSYMCA offers two free balance classes each week to members along with other classes to help build strength, flexibility, proprioception, and even cardiovascular fitness. The other offerings include Chronic Disease Prevention classes, Parkinson classes, Brain Game Programs, Care Giver Support Groups, dance, art and aquatic classes, as well as volunteer and social programs to build community.
