Barrington Area CROP Hunger Walk Oct. 13
On Sunday, Oct. 13 the Barrington Area CROP Hunger Walk will join communities across the United States to help end hunger one step at a time, both around the corner and around the globe. This year the Walk will begin at Salem United Methodist Church, 115 W. Lincoln Ave., Barrington, with both a 1-mile and 5K route throughout the village of Barrington.
Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. and the Walk will begin at 1 p.m.
In its 41-year history, the walk is proud that over 13,000 walkers have raised more than $1.7 million, with over $428,800 given to local agencies working to end hunger. In 2023, the Barrington Area CROP Hunger Walk ranked 28th (out of over 500 Walks) in the nation, raising over $40,000. The hopes are to exceed that amount this year.
CROP Hunger Walks support the international relief and development work of Church World Service. Additionally, the Barrington Area CROP Hunger Walk will support the efforts of Northern Illinois Food Bank, FISH Food Pantry — Carpentersville, BACOA Meals With Wheels, United Partnership for a Better Community Summer Lunch Program in Wauconda and Wauconda-Island Lake Food Pantry to eradicate hunger in our community.
All are invited to be a part of the CROP Walk. There will be activities for children, including a scavenger hunt. Families are invited to bring wagons and strollers.
Not feeling up to walking that day? Register as a “spirit walker,” sharing your passion to end hunger as you ask friends to sponsor you.
It’s easy to sign up and donate to the Walk. Just go to the website, crophungerwalk.org/barringtonil, to register or donate. Find information about the upcoming restaurant fundraisers on the site, too.
CROP Hunger Walks are making a big difference worldwide, including ensuring that more children reach their fifth birthday, teaching sustainable ways to grow food and providing additional sources of food and income to families facing extreme challenges. We hope that you will join us in helping to end hunger.
