Schaumburg native’s song ‘Diehard’ celebrates love and football
Country artist Brina Kay released her new single, “Diehard,” at midnight on Saturday, Aug. 31. Cowritten by Kay, Jake Arthur and Brad McKinney, and produced by Tommy Anderson and Smith Curry, “Diehard” is now available on all streaming platforms.
“Diehard” is a powerful stadium country anthem inspired by Kay’s experiences at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the vibrant sports culture that surrounds it. The song serves as a heartfelt tribute to the unyielding spirit of Nebraska football fans, capturing the passion and resilience that define both love and fandom.
“People always joke that Nebraska fans make the best spouses because they’re the most dedicated and loyal people you will ever meet, so we wanted to roll with that idea,” said Kay. “This song evokes the pride and passion synonymous with Husker football, but it also tells a beautiful love story, which I think anyone can relate to, no matter what team they cheer for.”
“Diehard” uses the metaphor of being a die-hard Husker fan to explore the steadfast nature of true love. Just as Nebraska fans remain loyal through every win and loss, the song emphasizes the importance of standing by your partner through all of love’s challenges. With its anthemic chorus and emotional lyrics, “Diehard” is poised to resonate with listeners across the spectrum, from sports enthusiasts to hopeless romantics alike.
Kay got her start in entertainment growing up in the Chicago area. As a kindergartner at Dooley Elementary School, she learned to play the violin through their early instrumental music program. At Schaumburg High School, she participated in choir, musical theater, the Orchesis dance team, and the Saxon Superfans.
