Roselle Lions join in Green Roselle event Sept. 7
The Roselle Lions Club will once again take part in the Green Roselle Community Recycling Event from 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 7, at the Roselle Metra Station north parking lot. Enter at Rose Drive off Lawrence Avenue. The north lot will close after 7 p.m. Sept. 6 to set up for the event.
Residents are urged to begin collecting their used eyeglasses, hearing aids, home ink cartridges, cellphones, keys, pop top tabs and used sneakers to be recycled.
All collected items will be sent to the Lions of Illinois Foundation in DeKalb. Glasses will be sorted and graded and sent to missionaries and health care workers in low-income countries. Hearing aids will be refurbished and made available to Lions Clubs to donate to needy persons in their communities.
All other items will be sold to recyclers and the money raised will be used to provide Lions Foundation programs such as student low-vision screening and Camp Lions for visually and hearing-impaired children.
Other items being collected include clothing, batteries, thermometers, bicycles, latex paint, electronics and more. There will be no charge for donations made to the Lions.
Some other items will have a small service charge to recycle. More information about items being collected and charges, if any, can be found at www.roselle.il.us/741/Roselle-Recycles or greenroselle.org.
Recycling saves items from landfills and most items are reused or repurposed.
