Cold War vets deserve more
This is in response to a letter on Cold War vets, dated July 27.
I also served during that period of the Cold War and beyond. It’s nothing new that our politicians care less about the military service if they have not served. Yes, there are no monuments for Cold War veterans’ service but, in Lake Zurich we have a monument dedicated to “All Who Have Served Anywhere Or Any Time.” It is located on 200 Mohawk Trail off of South Old Rand Road in front of the police facility.
It is a very beautiful monument. Drop by and see it. I would strongly suggest any veterans not cast a vote for Rep. Krishnamoorthi, as well as other representatives who would not co-sponsor the bill. Like the WWII veterans who are dying off, so are the Cold War veterans. Yes, the recognition of the Cold War Medal would have been nice for service preformed. But it is very doubtful any other veterans from that period will ever see it.
The military has issued medals for just finishing basic training and MOS qualifications. Figure that one out.
