Roselle receives federal grant for downtown improvements

On Friday, July 19, U.S. Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) presented the village of Roselle with $500,000 in federal funding to renovate the municipal campus into new outdoor event and gathering spaces.

The Community Project Funding grant secured by Rep. Krishnamoorthi will support the construction of three new public spaces downtown: Petal Porch, Petal Promenade, and Petal Plaza.

“Our goal has always been to fund these downtown improvements with as minimal impact to local taxpayers as possible. The village extends our deep gratitude to Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi for securing federal funding that will allow us to do exactly that,” said Roselle Mayor David Pileski. “Supporting projects like the Petal spaces with grant funding allows us to bring positive change to our community while remaining focused on funding and addressing Roselle’s infrastructure needs.”

The construction of Petal Porch will bring more gathering space to Roselle’s Main Street, as well as a covered stage that can be enjoyed by locals and used for live entertainment during special events.

Petal Promenade, which connects Petal Porch to Petal Plaza, renovates an underused corridor into a public garden with seating areas. Petal Plaza adds even more green space to downtown Roselle, transforming the municipal campus into a space ideal for community gatherings and special events.

“Nothing brings a community together better than an outdoor space for events and gatherings, and the completion of Petal Plaza, Porch, and Promenade will allow the people of Roselle to stop and smell the flowers,” Congressman Krishnamoorthi said. “I was proud to secure $500,000 in federal funding to help Roselle complete these event spaces and make other upgrades to the municipal campus along the way. I look forward to seeing the newly designed campus in full bloom soon.”

Construction on Petal Porch, the space closest to Roselle’s downtown, began in the spring and will be open for use during the Taste of Roselle on Aug. 2-4. Petal Plaza construction began this summer and will be completed this fall. For more information about the project, visit www.roselle.il.us/Petal.
