A global technology outage grounded flights, knocked banks offline and media outlets off air on Friday in a massive disruption that affected companies and services around the world and highlighted dependence on software from a handful of providers. Cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike said the issue believed to be behind the outage was not a security incident or cyberattack. It affected Microsoft 365 apps and services.
Developer officially asks Sugar Grove to approve controversial development near I-88, Route 47
Crown Community Development has asked to turn 861 acres of farmland near Sugar Grove into houses, apartments, offices and businesses. The company has filed a land-use application asking Sugar Grove to annex the land, zone it and subdivide it. The Grove would have a 244-acre commercial and business park and nearly 400 acres of housing.
Beer and Big Wheels: Emmett’s Brewing celebrates 25 years in West Dundee
Emmett’s Tavern & Brewing Co. is celebrating 25 years in West Dundee the way any venerable downtown institution would … with adult Big Wheel races. The restaurant and brewing house is honoring its quarter-century at 128 W. Main St. with its first Brewfest Saturday. The event will feature a car show, live music, food tents and lots of beer. And, of course, a race to glory on Big Wheels.
Riccardo’s Ristorante in Schaumburg closes, new concept being prepared for site
The closing of Riccardo’s Ristorante in Schaumburg this week ends a 35-year story as much about the people behind it as the beloved business itself, but plans are already afoot to bring a new dining concept to the space. Co-owner Katy Garcia said the recent sale of the restaurant’s assets, long planned because of challenges that arose during the pandemic, turned out to be fortuitous due to health issues now faced by her husband and business partner, Waldo.
7 Brew Coffee coming to Huntley
A 7 Brew Drive Thru Coffee stand is coming to Huntley. The drive-through coffee chain, which started in 2017 in Arkansas, has a locations in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and Sterling — the company’s first in Illinois.
About 300 apartments coming to Huntley, despite some village board reluctance
Huntley soon will be home to a new apartment complex near the Huntley Springs Retirement Resort near the intersection of Route 47 and Powers Road. Henry Patel, the developer for the nearby Hampton Inn, also is behind the housing complex, currently named Shiva Apartments. Plans also call for a small amount of commercial space, according to village documents.
